Today is Tax Day in the US. Thank the Lord, I filed a long time ago! However, last Friday, I went up to visit Paul and take a few pictures.
When I pulled up, Paul was not back from an in-town appointment yet. However, two young people were knelt down on the surface of the orchard. They were weeding on this cloudy, breezy, but dry Sequim day. One of Paul’s helpers was Nick Ager, a fellow from Maryland. I had heard about Nick from Paul and a mutual friend in Florida named Don.
As Nick was “up close and personal” with the orchard surface, he noticed a startling growth! There was one, then another mushroom becoming visible as he scanned the area. Actually, he and I stopped counting at 15 morel mushrooms. https://www.instagram.com/growingbacktoeden/?hl=en
Why is that a big deal? Because Paul and Carol love morels, and he had been asking God for them to grow on his property. Now, they had shown up overnight. Paul hadn’t seen them yet, so I got to be there when Nick announced that there will be a morel mushroom harvest soon.
Paul was thrilled! This was a clear answer to prayer. He had not planted anything, so either God inserted the fungi or it came with the load of wood chips that was delivered there some time ago. Either way, it was a clear gift from above. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variability, neither shadow of turning.” James 1:17
The verse that came to Paul’s mind was Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself also in the LORD; and He shall give you the desires of your heart.“
Part of Paul’s life that so many wish they had are the continual surprises the Lord weaves into Paul’s daily existence. It keeps things fresh, holy, vibrant. All the while, it bolsters an already amazing life of faith. He knows that we cannot out-give God: out-bless, out-love.
This event will be added to the 2nd edition of Growing Food God’s Way in a section called: In The Nick of Time. Many more updates to the 2014 book are on the way as well. Same title, similar cover (so far), but a different subtitle is likely to appear.
Lord willing, the printed book will come out this summer. DD
